IMMAF World Championships 2016: Irish Results – Day 1

The 2016 IMMAF World Championships kicked off earlier today with an eventful first day which saw an impressive showing from Team Ireland and Team Northern Ireland.

Muay Thai specialist Cian Cowley earned a beautiful KO victory over Alex Garcia Gurpegui, SevereMMA’s very own Dave Fogarty picked up a first round Rear naked choke finish against Hussain Abdulla, Matt Sheehan submitted Damien Remy in the 1st round and Nathan Kelly finished Reece Van Der Merwe with a triangle in the second round.

The rest of the Irish victors earned their wins by decision.

Micky Pereira was also due to fight today but was given a bye after his opponent Damien Newman failed to make weight.
