Chris Stringer injured; Barnett steps in against Rhys McKee at BAMMA 28

Chris Stringer revealed earlier today via his Facebook that he was been forced to withdraw from the Lonsdale 155lb championship bout with Rhys McKee which was set for BAMMA 28 in Belfast later this month.

Stringer’s Facebook post read as follows:

“Bad news, I’ve had to withdraw from my BAMMA title fight in the SSE Arena. I want to apologise to Rhys, his team and everyone who wanted to watch the fight. This is only the 2nd fight I’ve ever pulled out from in my entire career. But my health is more important and learnt from previous mistakes, I’m sure Rhys didn’t want to fight me at 30% so I’m sure we can do it another time!”

Tim Barnett (3-0) will step in to face the champion McKee (5-0) for the Lonsdale lightweight title.

Barnett turned professional in February 2016 and has finished all three of his opponents in the first round.

BAMMA 28 and Bellator 173 take place at the SSE Arena in Belfast on 24th February 2017.
