UFC Continues to Roll, Short Preview of Next Few Big Bouts

The MMA community is hyped after UFC started to produce shows following the COVID-19 pandemics. Dana White and his crew had a plan to organize the events even during the lockdown, but because of several things that didn’t happen.

The eyes of the entire world were pointed towards UFC 249 and California, but the politics prevented it from happening. On the other side, once White reached an agreement with the authorities in Florida, everything got back to normal for the UFC, and its president fulfilled his promise about coming back before all other major US sports.

Unfortunately, apart from the UFC, there aren’t any notable MMA organizations that have scheduled events. Bellator, One Championship, WEC, Zuffa, IFL, etc, they are all waiting to see what happens next and then to start.

Now, about the UFC, they are ahead of several shows, that are scheduled in the near future, and the most sounding one is the UFC 250. The main event here is the match for the bantamweight title between the reigning champion Amanda Nunes and Felicia Spencer. This will be the seventh title defense for the Lioness, and like all of them before, she is the favorite.

Odds on her win are 1/5, while on the other side, Felicia Spencer’s upset is 4/1. The champion to win via KO, TKO, and DSQ is 4/5, and the by a decision 16/5. Odds on her retaining the belt via submission are a bit higher, 11/2. On the other side, Spencer to capture the belt via KO, TKO, and DSQ is 17/1, after a submission 9/1, and decision 14/1. The one match all the entire world awaits is the bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje. The American fighter earned his chance to fight for the lightweight title after dismantling Tony Ferguson, who was regarded as the only guy who could dethrone the champion from Russia.

Gaethje was super in that bout, dominating from the start until the stoppage, stunning the world, and introducing himself as the next big thing in the organization. Although there weren’t any official talks about those contests, everyone expects to see it booked for the end of the year. Ali Abdelaziz is the agent of both fighters, which is a guarantee that there won’t be too many troubles while negotiating.

Now, even though the match is not scheduled and confirmed, the bookies already made odds. Khabib is a heavy favorite here with 1/2 on his victory; meanwhile, Justin Gaethje is 15/8. The chances for this bout to go to the distance are slim. Odds on that to happen are 21/10, and to finish earlier 5/13. Nurmagomedov’s triumph via submission is 13/5, via decision 11/4, and after KO, TKO, or DSQ 4/1. Gaethje to submit Khabib is 33/1, his win via KO, TKO, DSQ is 12/5, and a draw is 50/1.

The most complicated situation is in the welterweight division, where we have several attractive fighters who are interested in dethroning Kamaru Usman, who won the belt last year. Jorge Masvidal, Colby Covington, Tyron Woodley, in recent times, Conor McGregor.

Did you know that the Notorious planned to go up to the welterweight division? His idea was exposed once Usman and Abdelaziz, who is his manager too, called him out publicly, offering him a title fight

After that, the bookmakers immediately reacted, setting the odds for him to win the welterweight title belt before the end of 2021 at 5/2. On the other side, to regain the lightweight title before that time is 11/4. If by any chance he fights against Khabib, that might be pretty tough, and the oddsmakers don’t believe in the Notorious’ abilities. The Russian is a heavy favorite in their potential clash 3/10, and Conor’s win is 3/1. A draw here is 33/1.

As said before, for now, the UFC is the only organization with confirmed events, and we’re expecting to see all other organizations following the same example too.
