Bellator 245: Davis vs. Machida 2 Results

The Mohegan Sun Arena was the setting for the latest Bellator outing on Friday night. A light heavyweight showdown between Phil Davis and Lyoto Machida was the main event of the evening. Cat Zingano made her Bellator debut when she fought Gabrielle Holloway in the co-main event.

Phil Davis has set himself up for a shot at the light heavyweight title currently held by Vadim Nemkov. Lyoto Machida and Davis battled on the feet for the majority of tonight’s main event. It will not be a fight that will be remembered in years to come. There was not much action. Davis did enough on two out the three judges scorecards and took home a split decision.

The arm of Cat Zingano (11-4) was raised on her Bellator debut in her first fight since 2018. Zingano battled to a decision win over a game Gabrielle Holloway. Zingano looked to be coasting after dominating rounds one and two. Holloway (6-6) had the mounted position in round three and landed some big shots. Ultimately is was not to be for Holloway with Zingano moving into title contention.

Taylor Johnson stunned Ed Ruth with a first round submission. It was a debut to remember for Johnson who caught Ruth swiftly with a heel hook. The fight was over in less than one minute.

Glory Kickboxing superstar Raymond Daniels (2-1) spun himself into trouble in the opening bout of the min card. Daniels landed not one, but two spinning kicks to the groin of opponent Peter Stanonik.

Stanonik (5-4) was just about able to recover from the first blow. The second landed almost immediately after the restart of the fight. Stanonik was in clear agony and referee Jason Herzog call a halt to the fight in the second round.

In the prelims section of the card Alex Polizzi (7-0) picked up a huge win. He won a decision over former Bellator champion Rafael Carvalho (16-5). Leslie Smith (12-8) got the nod from the judges in her win over Amanda Bell (7-7). Keith Lee (7-3) got a unanimous decision win when he fought Vinicius Zani (11-7) in the curtain raiser.

The bout between Tyrell Fortune (8-1) vs. Jack May (11-6) was called a no contest. May unfortunately was unable to continue after being on the receiving end of a groin strike. Referee Todd Anderson waived the bout off in the first round.
