Is Jon Jones overconfident ahead of Machida bout?

“Lyoto is a great opponent, hes game. He’s unpredictable and he’s fast. He loves distance and I love distance.” said UFC light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.

“I believe i’m just as fast. I’m also very unpredictable. I feel as if I can shoot at his legs and take him down and I also feel I have great takedown ability from the clinch. I know my weaknesses, I’m not naive to them.”

“I will defeat Lyoto Machida. I believe its my destiny to be the UFC champion for many years.”

Very confident words from the champion but is he over confident? Has the hype got to him? He hasn’t REALLY been tested like other champions have been tested.

Lets be honest, Rampage isn’t what he used to be, his hearts not in it anymore, hes distracted. Shogun was “rusty as hell” and was coming off yet another knee surgery. Lets not forget his performance against Mark Coleman in Dublin post knee surgery.

The hype has got to other champions like Rashad Evans in the past, against the same opponent. Maybe history is repeating itself.
