Undefeated prospect Chris Weidman steps in against Maia at FOX 2

UFC president Dana White announced moments ago that undefeated middleweight prospect Chris Weidman has agreed to step in on short notice to fight Damian Maia later this month on the UFC on FOX 2 event

Weidman last fought against ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor at  UFC 139, pulling off a ‘D’arce choke’ against the UFC veteran Lawlor.

Damian Maia was originally set to face Michael Bisping, but Bisping was promoted to the co-main event earlier today due to an injury to Mark Munoz.

Weidman vs Maia will air live on FOX,. The event takes place on 28th January in Chicago.

UFC president Dana White announced on twitter that Rousimar Palhares was offered the fight but turned it down.
