Cage Contender XIII Preview: Bantamweight Grand Prix: Holohan -v- Rooney

Unbeaten submission specialist Paddy “The Holigan” Holohan 7-0-1 will face off against Damien “The Rage” Rooney 8-2-1 in the first Round of the Bantamweight Grand Pix at Cage Contender 13 in association with FIGHTSHOP.com in a bid to face highly rated Sambo specialist Artemij Sitenkov in the tournament final.

Both fighters are top of the tree staples on the Irish circuit and Irish MMA fans have been demanding it for a considerable amount of time.

Cage Contender and Pancrase FC vet Holohan is a fan favourite from John Kavanagh’s Straight Blast Gym, but while he has high level submissions wins over a number of well known opponents. Rooney is by far and away the toughest opponent that Holohan has fought so far in his career.

Rooney has notable wins over Rob Quinn, Rob McCrum and Ben Davis victory coming by Armbar in all of those contests, he is also the proud owner of a vicious knockout victory over Mark Connor last time out at Cage Contender 9. The only losses in his career have been against top level European competitors John Cullen and Neil “2Tap” Seery

In this contest both fighters are high level submission fighters, so be pretty sure for this contest could to go down to the ground. It could be over in the first round, or could be a full 15 minute submission chess match. What ever the outcome this is guaranteed to be one of the best fights this year. One fighter will progress in the Grand Prix, one step closer to a title shot and the other is in danger of falling by the wayside.
