Cathal Pendred “I will impose my will on Bruno [Carvalho] from the start”

Cathal Pendred says he’s confident of extending his unbeaten Cage Warriors streak to five fights this weekend.

The Irish welterweight (10-2-1) will headline a CWFC event for the first time in his career when he tackles BJJ black belt Bruno Carvalho (14-5-0) in the main event at Cage Warriors 49 at St David’s Hall in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday night.

Pendred, who impressively overcame David Bielkheden at Cage Warriors 47: Dublin back in June, has trained in Iceland alongside UFC welterweight Gunnar Nelson in the build-up to Saturday’s fight, under the watchful eye of SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh.

A victory over Carvalho would represent another big scalp for 25-year-old Pendred, who told Your MMA: “I’m really looking forward to getting in there now. I have that fire in my belly that only comes around just before my physical fitness peaks.

“I think he [Carvalho] is a good all-rounder and a good test for me. Although, I know I’m going to be too much for him everywhere.

“I always have some sort of game-plan for each fight, but you also have to be able to adapt to it. The main thing is that I’m coming to fight and impose my will on Bruno from the start.”
