UFC on FOX: Stockholm Results – Mixed results for Team Ryano

It was all about Team Ryano tonight in the UFC as Paul Redmond and Neil Seery represented Ireland inside the Octagon in Stockholm, Sweden for UFC on Fox 14.

And it was veteran Neil Seery opening the card as he put on a phenomenal performance against Chris Beal. The Dubliner won all the early exchanges early in round one before getting taken down late on.

Seery had Beal deep in a guillotine in the second before doing a massive amount of damage on the bottom with elbows and punches after Beal escaped. Beal tired badly in the third and Seery’s boxing easily saw him through to the finish. The judges all scored the fight for Neil Seery (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) as he moves to 2-1 in the UFC.

Redmond had a much tougher task as he debuted against unbeaten blue chip prospect Mirsad Bektic with just two weeks notice. The American was dominant from minute one and got the fight to the floor from a Redmond takedown attempt. On top, Bektic landed ferocious ground and pound and cut “Redser” just before the bell. It was more of the same In the second as Bektic pummeled the increasingly bloody Redmond from the top position on the floor.

In the third Redmond was tagged early before being taken down inside of 30 seconds. After a tough weight cut Redmond just had nothing left to give as Bektic was happy to ride out to the finish on the ground before the judges’ scored him every round (30-27, 30-27, 30-25). For Redmond he’ll hope to have a better preparation and performance next time out.
