Ronda Rousey donates her title belt to Brazilian Judo school

Following her euphoric 34 second win against Bethe Correia at UFC 190 on Saturday 1st August, Ronda Rousey fended off advances at the post-fight press conference from the press questioning where she intended to leave her belt in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Before the bout, when quizzed at media day last week, she commented: “Bethe did have one thing right. She said that the Brazilian people deserve to have the belt left here. So I decided that after I win it, I’m going to make sure that I don’t take it home with me. I’m going to give it and make sure that it stays someplace in Brazil as my gift”.

‘Rowdy’ Rousey proclaimed that she would place her successfully defended title in a special place, and the new found location of ‘Instituto Recao’ most certainly reflects such a statement.

Prior to her title defence at the HSBC Arena, she had donated an estimated $30,000 to Instituto Recao – a judo school and social project designed to immerse local children in the art of judo, as well as stimulate pupils psychically and cognitively. Knowing just how vital the sport is to both her life and career, this is clearly a cause very close to the champion’s heart.

Instituto Recao is owned by judo bronze medalist Flavio Canto; something Rousey knows much about considering she too holds the same Olympic title. Training with the children as well as posing for pictures and offering hugs, it looks as though her greatest victory of UFC 190 actually arrived outside the Octagon.
