Another blockbuster fight has been added to UFC 194 this morning as, what’s looking like the strongest UFC event off all time, gets the meeting of world class grapplers Demian Maia and Gunnar Nelson. The news was confirmed by the UFC today.

Training out of SBG Ireland as well as the Mjolnir gym in his home country of Iceland, Gunnar Nelson has quickly become a fan favourite in the UFC due to his calm demeanour and electric fighting style. Wins over Jorge Santiago, Omari Akhmedov and Zak Cummings preceded his sole career loss to Rick Story before Nelson bounced back last time out with a dominant and quick win over Brandon Thatch.

A former UFC middleweight title challenger, Demian Maia will be by far the toughest test of Nelson’s young career to date. Having started his own MMA fighting career way back in 2001, wins over fighters like Chael Sonnen, Rick Story and Jon Fitch show how high level Maia has been for years while three wins in a row recently have put him within touching distance of a shot at the title.

UFC 194 takes places in Las Vegas on the 12th of December and will see Chris Weidman battle Luke Rockhold for the middleweight title before the featherweight belts are unified as Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo finally meet.
