Miesha Tate: “I’m not the champion, yet I’m fighting better girls” than Rousey

It is understandable that #1 bantamweight challenger Miesha ‘Cupcake’ Tate is frustrated with the UFC.

As ‘Rowdy’ Rousey and UFC President Dana White gear up for a UFC 193 title showdown against Holly Holm in Melbourne, Australia, Tate, looked set to meet Brazilian slugger Amanda Nunes. But she doesn’t want that fight, as she revealed to GNP1.

“She never was (my next opponent),” said Tate. “I am very frustrated with the UFC. I am not in a position where I feel like I need to be pushed around. Like, ‘you take this fight, you take that fight’. It makes no sense to me. I am not the champion, yet I am fighting all the number-one contenders.

“And Nunes is ranked number four in the world, Holm number eight in the world. What is wrong with that picture? I am not the champion, yet I am fighting better girls than the champion is fighting — and I am not getting paid what the champion’s getting paid. That is the champion’s job to fight the best girls in the world. So when I am the champion, then we will talk.”

With the fight versus Nunes likely not taking place, Tate is uncertain what the near future will hold for her instead.

“I don’t know. I am in a very awkward stage in my career right now, where I don’t know what is the best next step for me, but I know that I am not gonna be pushed around by anybody,” she said. “More things have to be contractually agreed upon, instead of verbally. That’s what happens when you can’t come to a verbal trust point. I’m gonna have to have things written down from now on.”

Miesha has also stated how a developed career in acting is becoming something of a passion project so she could be shaping up to try to follow in the same path as Rousey and Gina Carano.
