After being originally reported by Ariel Helwani, today the UFC have now confirmed that Conor McGregor and Nathan Diaz will meet for the second time at UFC 200. It will serve as the main event and will be contested at 170lbs.

In their first outing, at UFC 196, McGregor entered as a big favourite but was submitted in the second round after Diaz weathered the early storm.

In the initial aftermath of the fight many, including McGregor himself, assumed a return to featherweight, where he remains champion, would be next. But when pay-per-view figures allegedly revealed UFC 196 drew the biggest numbers ever, the rematch became exponentially more likely and desirable to the promotion and both fighters.

That leaves the featherweight division in somewhat of a limbo but it also assures another huge buy rate for the UFC’s summer showcase.

UFC 200 takes place on July 9th at the new MGM Arena in Las Vegas, stay tuned to SevereMMA.com for more details as the card approaches.
