World Series Of Fighting to become Professional Fighters League

World Series Of Fighting (WSOF) has changed its name to the Professional Fighters League, it was confirmed earlier today. Officials announced via press release, that the new promotion will launch in January 2018 and boast a tournament format.

The PFL is claiming that it is the “world’s only mixed martial arts league,” and will consist of seven different weight classes, during its inaugural season. Each competitor will compete in three regular bouts over the course of 10 months, a select pool of the most successful competitors based on win records will then compete in a playoff and subsequent championship round, should they make it that far.

Tournament winners will receive a $1 million purse, with a total of $3 million being shared amongst other tournament competitors.

There is currently no TV deal in-place that would see the PFL air live within the USA, the organisation’s current deal expires at the end of 2017, talks to extend this are currently on-going.
