Team Ireland Take Home 6 Medals From IMMAF-WMMA World Championships in Bahrain

Team Ireland descended on Bahrain this week as the IMMAF-WMMA World Championships took place in Khalifa Sports City Stadium. Without any government funding—as MMA is yet to be recognised by Sport Ireland—the team of athletes and coaches funded the trip themselves to compete on the world stage at the highest level of amateur MMA.

In total, Team Ireland amassed three silver and three bronze medals across the junior and senior competitions. SBG D24’s Shauna Bannon narrowly missed out on a gold medal to add to her collection of kickboxing world titles, losing to China’s Guangmei Han by decision in the women’s bantamweight final. Nadine Abbott-Bissett and Megan Hamill also reached the finals of their respective divisions in the junior portion of the competition, with both losing out on gold via decision.
