John Redmond vs. Richard Kiely Title Fight set for Cage Legacy 17

Cage Legacy 17 is set to go down at the Pillo Hotel in Ashbourne on September 30. Headlining the event will be a monster domestic clash between John Redmond and Richard Kiely for the middleweight title. The former training partners will move to the 185-pound division and the fight will serve as the main event for Cage Lagacy’s next installment.

Redmond (7-17) is coming off a defeat by the hands of Darwin Rodriguez in a light-heavyweight clash at EPF1 in June of 2021. Redmond has been a staple on the Irish scene for many years having made his debut back in 2009. “Johnny Jitzu” has fought the who’s who of Irish talent along the way in his storied career. His last set of wins came in 2016 as he beat Modestas Bukauskas at Cage Warriors 117 and Glenn Irvine at BAMMA 26.

After having a decorated kickboxing career, Richard Kiely made his professional mixed martial art debut in 2016 and worked his way to a welterweight title for BAMMA in just three fights. He fell short in that fight against Alex Lohore before making the move to the Bellator ranks in 2019. A knockout win over Mickael Bucher made it a successful debut but Kiely was left disappointed after back-to-back defeats against Michael Page and George Hardwick before departing the organisation. Kiely will make a return to the cage to take on his fellow Dublin rival and will get the chance to fight for the Cage Legacy title in the process.

With more professional fights set to be announced for the card and up to 4 amatuer title fights set to go down, Cage Legacy 17 is set to be another monster show. Stay tuned to SevereMMA for more details on the card which goes down on September 30th at the Pillo Hotel in Ashbourne.
