Garry Tonon vs. Shamil Gasanov Set For Featherweight Showdown at ONE Fight Night 12

The card for ONE Fight Night 12: Kryklia vs. Xhaja continues to expand, and a featherweight mixed martial arts matchup has been added to the festivities.

Second-ranked contender Garry Tonon will meet #3-ranked Shamil Gasanov in the evening’s co-main event on Saturday, 15th July, inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, and the victor is set to take a step closer to a Title shot.

Before coming up short against former World Champion Thanh Le in March 2022, Tonon had made a reputation for himself as one of the most dominant stars on the ONE roster.

He amassed a seven-fight winning streak in the promotion that included a win over Shinya Aoki in the Singapore-based promotion’s first-ever submission grappling-only contest in 2017.

The American star suffered a devastating knockout when he challenged Le for the World Title at ONE: LIGHTS OUT, but he wasn’t to stay beaten for long. “The Lion Killer” returned this past January at ONE Fight Night 6 and scored an impressive first-round submission over his compatriot Johnny Nunez.

He’ll be looking to make it two wins in a row on 15th July, but in his way will be a surging prospect who is dead set on taking over the featherweight division.

Bringing an impressive 12-0 slate into the division, Gasanov debuted on the global stage last October at ONE on Prime Video 3 and made quick work of former top-five contender Kim Jae Woong.

“The Cobra” submitted the South Korean standout inside the opening round to announce his arrival in ONE and earn his ninth submission victory of his career.

The 27-year-old was set to make his second promotional appearance against former two-weight World Champion Martin Nguyen at ONE Fight Night 7 last February, but an injury forced him out just days before the bout.

Now that the unbeaten talent has recovered, however, he is ready to take the biggest scalp of his career against a fellow grappling star in Tonon.

With recent wins in their pockets, both featherweight stars will be confident they can find victory at ONE Fight Night 12, meaning a firestorm will likely play out when they come to blows.
