Frankie Edgar And Jose Aldo To Fight For The UFC Interim Featherweight Title

It looks like we are going to have a featherweight title fight sooner than everyone might have expected.

With Conor McGregor rematching Nate Diaz at UFC 200, MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani reported earlier tonight that Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo will fight for the interim title in McGregor’s absence from the division. Helwani also reported that the bout is looking to be placed on the UFC 200 card. UFC Tonight later confirmed the news.

Edgar, a former UFC lightweight champion, and Aldo, a former UFC featherweight champion, had both campaigned for a big-money fight with McGregor since the Irishman won the title from Aldo before the turn of the year.

But, with McGregor now out of the fold for the time being and fighting Diaz, the UFC have decided to match the contenders with a showdown with McGregor likely for later in the year.

Like McGregor vs. Diaz, Aldo vs. Edgar is also a rematch after Aldo defeated the American via unanimous decision at UFC 156. Now, with Aldo coming off of a loss and Edgar in arguably the best form of his career it promises to be an even closer affair this time around.
