Jeff Monson to fight for the Cage Contender LHW Title in Dublin in July

MMA legend Jeff “The Snowman” Monson will compete for the Cage Contender Light Heavyweight Title in Dublin, Ireland on 21st July 2012 against a yet unnamed opponent.

Cage Contender announced Monson through their twitter account late on Sunday afternoon in a move that nobody saw coming.

Monson, one of the biggest names in the world of MMA, has a record that reads like a who’s who of the worlds best heavyweight fighters, with wins over superstars such as former UFC Champion Ricco Rodriguez and Roy “Big Country” Nelson. Only months ago Monson lost a decision to arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time, Fedor.

“Of course Cage Contender are delighted to bring another International star to fight in front of the Irish fans. Already this year we have brought names like Gunnar Nelson and Dean Lister, now we have added a massive name in Jeff Monson. These names will hopefully bring more UFC fans off their sofas to local event and in turn raise the profile of Irish MMA in general” – Karl Hutson, Cage Contender

While no opponent has been named yet Cage Contender CEO John Ferguson is expected to have a match confirmed over the coming weeks.

Tickets for Cage Contender XIV in association with FightShop.com in the National Arena, Tallaght are available from CageContender.net and in every Xtravision shop in Ireland from €30
