James Gallagher Out of Bellator 285 Fight vs Brett Johns

Sources close to the situation have confirmed to SevereMMA that James Gallagher is out of his bantamweight clash with Brett Johns at Bellator 285.

The reasons are currently unknown as to why “The Strabanimal” will no longer face Johns. SevereMMA understands that Bellator are working on a replacement opponent for the Welshman.

Gallagher was set to be one of the main attractions on a stacked card. The 25-year-old Strabane native was primed to return to Dublin off the back of his last outing, a loss to Patchy Mix, which was the co-main event of Bellator 270 last November. Gallagher brought ‘The Jimmy Show’ to the 3Arena for that contest and was set to do the same next month as he was set to face off against Welsh-based rival Brett Johns.

“The Pikey” took to Twitter to share his disappointment with the fact that Gallagher was forced to pull out.

Bellator 285 is set to take place at the 3Arena in Dublin on Friday 23rd September. Peter “The Showstopper” Queally will headline the even when he takes on former UFC champion and lightweight veteran Benson Henderson. The co-main event is a mouth-watering clash between Yoel Romero and Melvin Manhoef in the light-heavyweight division.

It is believed that undefeated prospect Ciaran Clarke will take up the vacant slot on the main card. The Drogheda man is set to take on Georges Sasu in the featherweight division.
