Condit crowned interim champ; Diaz announces retirement after controversial loss

Nick Diaz announced his “retirement” in the Octagon after his controversial decision loss to the new UFC Welterweight Interim Champion Carlos Condit.

The debate will go on and on about this one, many fighters have posted on twitter saying that they had it for Diaz including Dan Henderson, Daniel Cormier, Mark Munoz, Pat Miletich, Joe Lauzon, Matt Lindland, Yves Edwards, Ronda Rousey and more

Nick Diaz stated that he couldn’t accept this as a loss. He continued, saying that Condit was “running” and “kicked me in my leg a little bit”

He then went on to say “I don’t want to play this game anymore” and that he doesn’t “need this shit”.

All three judges scored the fight for Condit. Judge Kamijo had it 48-47 , Judge Morse Jarman had it 49-46 and Judge Cecil Peoples had it 49-46. But that doesn’t really tell the whole story, Nick Diaz controlled the centre of the octagon for the vast majority of the fight but couldn’t quite cut off Condit as he kept on the outside with leg kicks and push kicks.

Carlos Condit outlanded Diaz 146-110 in strikes landed according to Compustrike. Of Condit’s 146 strikes, 104 were kicks, where of Diaz’s 110 strikes only 19 were kicks.
