Conor McGregor to coach team Europe on “The Ultimate Fighter”

Following his outstanding performance against Chad Mendes to win the interim UFC featherweight championship at UFC 189 last night, Conor McGregor will be quickly back in action – but not inside the cage.

Instead, McGregor will coach the next season of the UFC’s reality show “The Ultimate Fighter”. The news was announced on the Sunday’s TUF Finale broadcast by UFC president Dana White.

Opposite McGregor on the show will be fellow featherweight, and Chad Mendes teammate, Urijah Faber. The former WEC champion will coach the show for the second time after standing opposite Dominick Cruz on the one live season of the series.

Also announced by White was a format change up which will see sixteen lightweights,  eight from Europe (coached by McGregor) and eight from America (coached by Faber) go head-to-head.

The season should bring added excitement to a fading brand but won’t end in a fight between the coaches as McGregor will instead fight Jose Aldo to unify the featherweight belts when the show culminates.
