While fans are excited by up-and-coming prospects like Ian Garry, and rightfully so too, Conor McGregor’s return is on the horizon. While the ‘Notorious’ has been in the media spotlight for the wrong reasons in recent times, people still love him. In fact, Conor McGregor’s dedicated and loyal following appears to always have his back, despite his numerous issues outside of the Octagon and his absence from the sport in recent times.

With the Dublin-born fighter gearing up for a return against Michael Chandler, the news and views surrounding one of Ireland’s greatest-ever exports are surfacing again. Some people don’t think he’ll return as the fighter we all know and love, while others think he’s capable of making a devastating comeback to the UFC and securing another title win. Ultimately, though, whatever happens with McGregor’s return, his true fans will always have his back. Here’s why below.

McGregor’s an exceptional fighter

First and foremost, fans adore Conor McGregor for the excitement he brings inside and outside of the Octagon. His knockout power makes him a serious weapon that helps fans predict fights and enjoy UFC betting, his aura and attitude in the cage is unrivalled and, on his day, Ireland’s finest is capable of seeing off anyone in the division. A fighter who thrives off the crowd who travel across the world to support him, with many fans coming from Ireland, Conor McGregor is a true warrior. He doesn’t duck challenges, he’ll always take on the biggest fighters, and his aggressive approach and array of weapons makes him an exceptional fighter to support. Put simply, not many fighters have the same mindset and mentality as Conor McGregor. He truly is one of a kind.

His personality is infectious

Whether it’s due to his tough nature or the comical side he showcases on a regular basis, Conor McGregor is an infectious character. Someone you can’t help but watch, you never know what he’s going to do or say next, which is exactly part of his appeal. McGregor isn’t easily swayed, he’s loyal to the people around him, he has a lovely family supporting his every move, and he’s just a normal guy from a small town in Ireland who has managed to carve out a hugely successful career for himself. From the confidence he oozes to the more aggressive side that has helped him become the fighter he is today, Conor McGregor’s personality is about as infectious as they come, while he also oozes authenticity when many other fighters simply don’t.

The UFC wouldn’t be the same without him

While there are the likes of Paddy Pimblett and Sean O’Malley aiming to entertain UFC audiences with their antics, none of them come close to Conor McGregor. Essentially weak, watered-down versions of McGregor, the UFC is crying out for a strong personality to lead the sport further forward. Make no mistake about it, the UFC is in a great place overall at the moment and illustrating notable growth, but the return of Conor McGregor will surely bring even more eyes on the sport. Without him, Dana White’s product is weaker and the press conferences, in particular, are suffering as a result. Conor McGregor is a showman, he knows exactly how to sell a fight and pull in new audiences, and nobody can or will ever be able to replicate it in the same way.

A fighter that has come from nothing

Above all else, while he might let himself down on occasions and lose the odd fight, Conor McGregor’s rise from Crumlin Boxing Club to becoming one of the biggest sports stars on the planet is admirable. He has helped inspire people in Ireland and around the world and enabled them to have similar dreams. Of course, there are a number of fighters who have come from tough backgrounds and risen to the very top, but not many of them come from Ireland and manage to break America – and the rest of the world – like Conor McGregor has. Not bad for a kid from a small suburb near Dublin, right?
